Castle star Nathan Fillion has admitted that he is not sure whether his character should begin a relationship with Beckett.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Fillion explained that if the pair got together it could mean the end of the show.

“When we watch Castle, we see two people who are real people, good people, very different people,” he said. “Flawed, in that they just can’t get it together to get together. He’s blown it. She’s blown it. And I think that’s part of our love for it – knowing what should happen, watching them fail.”

Fillion continued: “If you want Castle over, let’s get them together! I think what Castle does very well is that dance. You certainly can’t play one note forever. What we’re going to see in season three is what happens in real life – often we see two people, maybe these two people should be together, maybe we all know that they should be together, but they’re married to the wrong people. That happens in real life and I think that’s a new tune to the dance that Castle and Beckett have.”

Fillion also suggested that Beckett will have a new love interest this season, saying: “I think we’re going to see that she does what people do. When they can’t have what they want they go elsewhere and try to fill that void, so I think we’re going to see that there’s going to be someone else for Beckett.”
